      As a PhD student, I am working on research about converting mechanical energy from human motions (running and biking), rotating machines, and vehicles, into useful electricity for powering electronic device such as smart watch using piezoelectric material. Piezo materials, called piezoelectric effect, can convert force/vibration into useful electricity. I utilize Math and Physics in school to develop an energy conversion device.

      In my bachelor degree, I developed computer simulation to detect a damage on rotating machine (pump, wind or steam turbine) or structure (bridge) using vibration or acoustic (sound) signal. Without disassemble the machine or structure, we can understand whether the machine or structure is in health or damage condition. It is similar like GP or doctor uses a stethoscope to understand a patient’s condition.

       

    • My Typical Day:

      I come to my office at 9 am. Open laptop and check my email. At 10 am, I do lots of experiments in the lab. At 12 am, I have lunch with my friends, and go to the lab again to complete my experimentation. I go home at 5 pm.

      Sometime I also spend my day at office to do a computer simulation. Once the simulation and experimentation completed, I start writing a paper and discuss with my supervisors.

    • What I'd do with the prize money:

      I would make a scream competition for senior high school. The winner is the one who produce a maximum sound in dB using Sound Level Meter (SLM).
