About Me:
I live in Kildare and am a lecturer and research scientist at Technological University Dublin
-
My Work:
I identify and measure organic molecules in the environment for a variety of reasons, ranging from detecting pollutants to studying microorganisms in extreme settings, to studying the role organic molecules play in nature. I work mainly with lipid compounds, the fatty molecules that are essential for life.
-
My Typical Day:
I do a mixture of teaching undergraduate students in the classroom and the laboratory. I also manage a team of scientists who have their PhD or are aiming to earn their PhD. Less often but as much as I can, I do science outreach, field work and engage with people in different ways outside the university to make sure the research I do is beneficial to people.
